Our read on it
By price per gram this is by far the best value barrier cream on the list: seventeen halalas a gram against thirty-nine for Mustela and fifty for Bepanthen. That arithmetic matters because a barrier cream is applied generously at every change rather than in a dab, and a small tube runs down fast so you start rationing it, which is the worst thing to do with a barrier cream. A big tub means using enough.
Pros
- By price per gram the best value barrier cream here, by a wide margin
- 250g lasts months and allows generous use
- Antiseptic as well as a barrier
- Also used for minor scrapes and burns around the house
Cons
- Very thick and hard to spread on sore skin
- The large tub is impractical in a changing bag
Important safety information
Apply to completely clean, dry skin, since putting any barrier cream on damp skin traps moisture and worsens the rash rather than treating it. Do not use inside the genitals. Use a spatula or tool rather than fingers, since a finger carries bacteria into the tub where they stay. See a doctor for a rash that does not improve within three days, or blistering, pus, or shiny red patches with clear edges, which signal a fungal infection needing entirely different treatment.
